Biography

Michael M. Hanis is the attorney who conceived the idea of a large and comprehensive law firm in South King County and commenced the initial steps to form the law firm that has become Hanis Irvine Prothero, PLLC.

Mike’s practice is focused on helping people achieve the greatest benefit and protection in their real estate, construction and commercial transactions.  Mike was born and raised in South King County, graduating from Renton High School.  His deep roots in the community are often a benefit to his clients.

Mike has extensive courtroom experience at every level of the litigation process, including several Washington State Superior Courts, the Washington Court of Appeals, and the Washington State Supreme Court; and before the Federal Courts, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He has negotiated long term water contracts on behalf of agencies providing water service to hundreds of thousands of Puget Sound residents.  On behalf of clients he has also, on numerous occasions, appeared before city councils, county councils, and committees of the Washington State Legislature.

Mike is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and other organizations relating to construction and municipal law.

In their free time, Mike and his wife, Peggy, remain committed to the South King County area, where they have spent their entire lives.  They are active in community affairs and have participated in Cub Scouts, Youth Soccer, local PTA, Planning Commissions, and community associations. They enjoy boating, traveling, and playing golf.  Mike’s other hobbies include photography, motorcycling, and fishing.  Mike and his wife also spend much of their free time with their extensive family, which includes four sons and many grandchildren, all of whom make their homes in South King County.
